NFTs also known as the fun game of exchanging digital assets for what most would consider an insane amount of money. Of course, celebrities are no strangers to NFTs as most people with an above-average income end up investing in collections.
Have you ever heard about BAYC (Bored Ape Yacht Club)? It’s a collection of 10.000 pictures of bored monkeys sold at incredibly high prices: from $40.000 to even $3 million.
Apparently, BAYC is celebrities’ favorite NFTs source. Along those who have an asset from this collection, we find Justin Bieber (#3001), Gwyneth Paltrow (#6141), Kevin Hart (#9258), Paris Hilton (#1294.), Snoop Dog ( #7773), Eminem (#9055), Jimmy Fallon (#599), Post Malone (#961 and #9039), Marshmello (#4808), The Chainsmokers (#7691), DJ Khaled (#7380), Gary Vaynerchuk (#7912, #8106, #1452, #3212), Timbaland (#590) and these are just a few.
So who are the celebrities most passionate about NFTs? Here’s a list of actors, musicians and TV personalities who are big fans of non-fungible tokens for various reasons.
Reese Witherspoon
The Legally Blonde actress is very active on social media in promoting NFTs: “Crypto is here to stay. I’m committed to supporting creators who have pioneered the NFT space, and encouraging more women to be a part of the conversation.”
As we know her, always outspoken and supportive of women’s rights, her NTFs collection also includes one from World of Women, a community that describes itself as “a thriving community celebrating representation, inclusivity and equal opportunities for all”, by promoting female artists that create NFTs.
Lindsay Lohan
After returning to the spotlight, Lindsay has shown that she is also interested in the crypto world. Apart from having her own collection, she also released her song “Lullaby” as an NFT in March 2020.
She has a habit of informing her fans about the crypto world and promoting crypto investment through social media posts and interviews.
Liam Payne
Liam is so passionate about the crypto world that he actually opened a new Twitter account dedicated entirely to crypto posts. He uses it to announce how the NFT market is going and also talks about different spaces where people can buy and sell crypto.
Steph Curry
In the sports area, we have Steph Curry who released a collection of almost 3000 NFTS for 333$ each. The collection is formed of digital replicas of his shoe-line. Steph assured his fans that they will be able to use the NFTs in multiple metaverses and different virtual games.
Gunna
Gunna was so happy with his little BAYC friend, that not only did he spend $300,000 on it, but he also got it tattooed on his calf. His name is Butta, by the way.
Jimmy Fallon
The Tonight Show host is also pretty enthusiastic about the crypto world. He’s even shared on live television a BAYC wearing a sailor, saying: “it reminded me of me”. He had an entire discussion on this subject with Paris Hilton, his guest that night, a crypto enthusiast herself.
Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg is really happy with cryptocurrency and the digitalization of the world, as he declared: “I’m always happier when the technology lets the fans connect with the artists. NFTs are an amazing innovation”.
He even has his own cryptocurrency: Snoop Dogge Coins. More than that, he released a collection of NFTs with his greatest memories. How very vulnerable of him.
Steve Aoki
Steve claimed himself as always being a passionate collector. Now, with the crypto world, it appears his passion has been digitized as well, as he sees it as “an opportunity to finally merge art, collectible culture, and music in a way I’ve never been able to realize before.”.
He has released 2 NFTs collections to the present along with Antonio Tudisco and Tom Bilyeu.
Shawn Mendes
Shawn chose interesting items to sell as NFTs. From his collection, his devoted fans were able to buy a virtual guitar, necklace, vest or earrings. The best part is that Shawn donated the entire sum to his foundation, Shawn Mendes Foundation Wonder Grants, designed to help young activists with big ideas achieve their goals.
Eminem
Apart from having his own digital ape, Eminem will release some kind of a digital festival under the form of an NFT this year. The idea comes apparently from his childhood passion for collecting stuff. The collection has a very interesting vintage vibe, inspired by vintage toys, comic books and trading cards.
Jack Dorsey
Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter and Square, showed us an interesting NFT experience. He decided to sell his first-ever tweet, which is 15 years old now, as an NFT. The message was simply “just setting up my twttr”. The NFT was sold for an insane amount of $2.9 million.
Jack said the money will be donated to GiveDirectly, a charity that helps people in need.
Kate Moss
The model actually sold a photo of herself sleeping as an NFT, under the name ‘’sleep with Kate’’. Her fans have apparently appreciated the intimacy and privacy of it all since the NFT was sold for $17,000.
The money was donated to the nonprofit organization Gurls Talk which helps young women.
Cara Delevingne
Cara’s NFT release was also centered around women’s empowerment. She sold a video of herself, nude in appearance, reading a poem about her vagina and naming notions of ownership.
The money was donated to her foundation that supports women’s empowerment, COVID relief, the LGBTQIA+ community, environmental causes and fighting institutional racism.
Emily Ratajkowski
Emily had an experience back in 2014 of her likeness being stolen. The artist Richard Prince had taken one of her Instagram photos and printed it on a large canvas which was priced for $90.000 in the Gagosian Gallery on Madison Avenue. She bought a copy of the picture for $81.000.
Today, she sells an NFT of herself standing in front of this picture hanging in her apartment, under the name ”buying myself back”. Nice fight back.
Besides being fun to own and collect, there are many ways in which NFTs can help people make the world a better place. To learn more about NFTs and decentralization, stay up to date with our blog.
